Joshua Tompkins' Biography.

Joshua lived in Rapid City, South Dakota for the first twenty years of his life. Although he has a mailing address in St. Paul, Minnesota, he still calls Rapid City his home.

Rapid City is nestled at the foot of the Black Hills. It is an area of majestic beauty and where a day's work actually means work.

Joshua started "working" at the piano at the age of eleven. While he was not exactly a prodigy those first few years of piano, his love for music and it's powerful force started to captured his mind, soul and heart.  Soon he found himself practicing every waking moment. He found inspiration in the music of Dino and other similar artists whose style of music fueled Joshua's passion to become a premier artist at a young age.

Joshua's talents and his ability to adapt various musical styles did not go un-noticed, soon he was performing at area churches, academic activities and special events. Through all of the local attention, Joshua remained vigilant to his passion and love of music. He was always reaching for the next musical goal, never satisfied to linger at one level for too long.

This dedication to the piano and it's driving musical force paid-off a bit when it came time for college and Joshua choose a private university in Minneapolis. Although the first few years were eased through various musical scholarships, Joshua soon found himself working around the clock to pay bills, study and grow his musical talent at the keyboard.

After a few years in Minneapolis, the musical talent of Joshua started to get around and he found himself balancing working gigs with a growing recording career.

College was good to Joshua and he completed his Doctorate in Musical Performance in 2004 from the University of Minnesota. He has made several recordings which can be previewed from the Albums page. Joshua teaches privately and for North Central University as a Theory Professor.

Joshua has remained true to his upbringing from a loving grandmother and mother in Rapid City. He credits the persevering love of these two women, his family and creator to his unique successful career.
